Connecting with Cannabis

“Never stop learning about the one you love, this life is a long journey and you choose to spend it with your person. Your love changes over the course of your journey. When you explore, you learn and you grow. When you do this together, your love grows with you.”

It’s February! The month of love. After all the homework and racing around like superheroes to get everything done, we don’t leave much time for romance and intimacy with our partners, do we?

No matter how much we prioritize, sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. The best thing I have learned is that date nights do not have to be extravagant or even planned out. The secret to a great date is to do something different than normal. Gain a new perspective. Learn new things about each other with renewed creativity. Create intimacy and connection – get flirty.

Connecting over cannabis can enhance your time together whether your romance is new or you’re in a long term relationship. When influenced by cannabis, your  conversations can become stronger and more rooted in the present.  This will allow you to explore what you already know and discover some new depths with each other. Your love changes over the course of your journey. When you explore, you learn and you grow. When you do this together, your love grows with you.

Whether you are a first timer, someone who hasn’t partaken in a while, or an everyday smoker, there are many great ways to connect with cannabis. Below I am going to explain different products I would recommend for a variety of people to enhance their date night and further bond with their partner.

For my first timers:

There’s no need to be nervous if you have not tried cannabis before! Zoet Cannabis Gummies and the Amend 1:10 Tincture are two great options to start. These products are easy to administer in low doses so you’re less likely to encounter averse effects. Both of these products are low in THC and combined with CBD, creating a beautiful balance to soothe the body and enliven the mind.

Zoet’s mood-boosting gummies have a delicious berry taste that leave you with a clear mind and relaxed body. Wait at least two hours between servings as edible cannabis may take 30 minutes up to two hours to take effect.

The Amend 1:10 tincture has a much quicker onset time of about 20 minutes because it is placed under the tongue.  You will start to feel calming effects and a relaxed body – perfect for cuddling and connection.

For my peeps returning to cannabis after being out of the game:

Feeling rusty? A lot has changed over the last few years in the cannabis industry and there are so many new products and strains! Don’t feel overwhelmed, I got you.

Try a vape pen or a pre-roll pack. There are many great vape products out there, like the Pineapple Upside Down Wedding Cake Disposable Vape by Sinse Cannabis. What I love most about this pen is that you don’t have worry about charging it or pushing buttons, and you can throw it away when you are finished. The ease and convenience of this product makes it hassle free and easy.

Our pre-roll packs are perfect for someone who wants to try different strains and explore what works best for them. The packs come in different quantities and offer a vast selection of strains.  The Lemon Heads pre-roll delivers an amazing taste with invigorating mental stimulation. It promotes creativity and is great to use for a variety of different activities from going to see a movie to going on an afternoon hike.

If variety is the spice of life – cannabis provides endless avenues for you and your lover to explore.

For the daily doser:

You’ve been around the block, so I’ll just cut to the chase. If you haven’t already tried the Caramel Apple Gelato Popcorn Buds, you are missing out. I absolutely love the kick of energy this strain gives me. Whether its day or night, it gives me the right boost I need to be present and engage whole heartedly in whatever I am doing.

Remember how I said a date doesn’t have to be glamorous to be a great time? Isnt’ there is something about being pulled into your partner after a hectic day and feeling cherished and understood that feeds your soul?

Cannabis can help us stay in touch with these feelings. Remember the important things are often those we can’t put a price on like time, effort, and  love. Discover how cannabis can help you reconnect and stay connected to the most important things in life.

Your intimacy is only as strong as your effort. Life is short so be open-minded. Date your lover. Never stop listening and learning, and don’t settle for less than your love deserves.

3 Ways Cannabis Can Support Your Fitness Regimen

With the new year here, ‘tis the season for resolutions and craving real change. If you are thinking about getting back in shape, or just simply want a new way to spice up your current fitness regimen, I hope this article brings you a new and fresh perspective on how to better balance all areas of your health to find your best self. – Kasey

1. Appetite

I think the biggest struggle for most moms everywhere is the time to just simply eat. We are always “snacking” quickly on whatever is in reach because we usually have a whiny, small army waiting for theirs, and, we all know they are not patient. When we do get the luxury of attempting to eat a meal, it is usually cold by the time we are able to sit down and eat it. Food becomes more of a survival need and we easily forget what our favorite dish is or what we used to crave. Food is a major component to happiness and balance. After all, it is the fuel that keeps our bodies going, and, without enough of it, we simply fail. While we can’t change how busy we are and all the things we juggle, we can change our outlook on food and create a better, healthier relationship with it. Cannabis increases your appetite. When dosed at the right times, your body can relax enough to recognize your hunger and encourage your body to communicate the things it is lacking and needing more of. It can also make that plate of food that has gotten cold while waiting for you to cut up 3 other human’s plates taste just a little more appealing. When we are adding more activity to our schedules, we are using more of our body’s energy and in return burning more calories. The biggest misunderstanding is that if we eat less, we weigh less and wont acquire as much fat. This couldn’t be more false. If we eat good food, frequently throughout our day, ideally every 3 hours, we train our bodies to use our stored body fat as a source of energy. Our bodies will burn our fat, instead of our muscle tissue.

There is so much false information out there mainly targeted to busy moms who don’t have a lot of extra time to learn or read more about what they are wanting to change. The media shoves the newest fad diets and binge exercising down our throats to shed those extra pounds we are carrying. There is no quick fix to most things in life, so why would we think the shape and presentation of our bodies is any different? There is no quick fix, your health and fitness should be based off consistency and balance. You shouldn’t be doing more of one than the other because everything is as important, which is why it creates overall balance in your health. Using cannabis to increase your appetite will help you feel stronger throughout your day, giving you more energy to push through, and also support you during your workouts without getting burnt out too fast or crash after. Food is our biggest medicine. What we put into our body is what our cells are reproducing off of. Always remember, you are what you eat.

“Cannabis is a very popular recreational drug that has a variety of medicinal uses, including increasing your appetite to reducing nausea and anxiety. The increase in appetite is probably one of the most common effects. The cannabinoid compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) binds to and activates cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1), which causes an increase in eating pleasure, food palatability, and ghrelin regulation (the hormone that controls digestion).” -Samantha Thompson

2. Mind Muscle Connection

One of the biggest misunderstandings is that weed makes you lazy. I am a firm believer that cannabis enhances your moods and the way to determine or control that is through the different strains and types. No strain can please everyone alone. Everyone is different and therefore will require a strain that agrees with them. If you are naturally a couch potato and your favorite thing to do is to cuddle up and watch movies, it wouldn’t be recommended that you consume an Indica before working out. There are many athletes out there using cannabis as a part of their regimen. I have been an athlete my whole life. Soccer was my sport of choice up until college, after that, weightlifting. My love for the gym grew year by year and I started training for bodybuilding competitions. I competed in 4 competitions total before starting my family and having kids. While I still lift and train from time to time, my love for the sport has never died.

Cannabis helped me grow as an athlete. It gave me more focus on the movements while I was lifting and calmed my thoughts to allow my mind and muscle connection. The mind is such a powerful being of its own, it controls the entire body. I have always been a believer that most things in life are mind over matter. If your mind is strong, the body cannot fail you. In order to lift to my best ability, I had to get my mind right. The results were rewarding, I was proud of where I placed in each of my classes. It was an exhilarating time of life for me, to see my body change as I had envisioned it. I learned so much about myself as a person, as a woman. How much I could endure, how far I could push myself mentally and physically. Cannabis opened up my perspective in life, to do more, to be more. This was one of the most valuable lessons on my journey. Whether you are a professional or a beginner, there are many benefits to marijuana. Cardio can get boring and redundant, we have all been there. Hopping on a treadmill for 40 minutes doesn’t always sound thrilling. Changing your mind with cannabis not only gets you there, it encourages you to stay there, in the moment, focused and determined to get it done.

“It is known that each muscle fiber has more than one connection to the network of synaptic cells that govern muscle contractions. The more frequently you are able to use a particular muscle fiber, the stronger the connections between that fiber and your brain become. You either use it and strengthen it, or lose it. THC has been shown in multiple studies to substantially affect the way our brain can focus on and respond to the environment. THC encourages a type of rapid readjustment of attention that can allow you to focus on one part of a movement fluidly into another, staying focused during repetitive exercise movements without losing focus.” -Samantha Thompson

3. Recovery

Muscle soreness is a real thing, and let’s be honest, sometimes it can feel like you have the flu if you push it real hard. I used to suffer from delayed onset muscle soreness and the muscle stiffness would last up to 4 days. It would discourage me for my next work out and my motivation was diminishing. Hot baths, increased water intake, stretching and massages just weren’t cutting it. At night, my legs would be so restless I wasn’t sleeping adequately and overall just felt like a mess. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder or even a competitor to experience this. Getting back into the gym can feel rough, and working out a body that isn’t used to it can feel rough. Cannabis can aid in any type of recovery from physical fitness. It relaxes your muscles in a way your mind can’t always achieve and therefore helps them properly heal. It promotes real sleep by settling your mind and body, allowing you to heal properly. If we do not allow ourselves to rest and heal, we put more stress on our immune and nervous systems, raising our cortisol levels which increases illness and injuries. This breaks our bodies down in a dangerous way. If we do not take care of ourselves, we aren’t any good to anyone.

“There is a ton of literature about the efficacy of cannabis’ analgesic properties, effectively reducing pain and inflammation. It also helps making delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) less miserable, helping you get back into the gym faster. Cannabis is also a natural vasodilator, enlarging your veins and causing more blood flow, which will help aid in muscle relaxation and faster recovery.” -Samantha Thompson

When we are giving our bodies everything it needs to work to its fullest potential, we feel our best. When we feel our best, we become better friends, employees, daughters, moms, wives, etc. This is the true definition of healthy balance.

Swade Lights up the Delmar Loop

Swade Cannabis Lights up the Delmar Loop

Swade Cannabis has opened its flagship dispensary in the eclectic Delmar Loop and is now celebrating the lighting of another (soon-to-be) iconic sign on the legendary city side of Delmar. Swade has had a supportive arm in Joe Edwards, whose creative vision, risktaking, and leadership have helped transform The Delmar Loop into one of the most vibrant restaurant, shopping, arts & entertainment districts in the United States. Joe owns the abandoned church that Swade calls home. “The cultural heart of St. Louis is the music industry and Delmar is one of the most iconic entertainment districts in the country, commented Kevin Riggs, President at Swade. “Everything we have done to make this dispensary inviting came from Joe Edwards’ visionary lead. We knew that we wanted to be in the center of the exhilarating music, art and cultural scene that The Delmar Loop provides and couldn’t be more appreciative of Joe’s support and guidance. We are simply here to compliment the area and bring as much to the neighborhood as they have already brought to us and know that this signage will be one more recognizable image on this already spectacular block.” Swade commissioned David Hutson with Neon Time LLC to design this masterpiece. “The new Delmar SWADE neon sign is a real one-of-kind,” says Hutson. “It is destined, I think, to become a neighborhood icon that brightly represents the top-notch operation that is SWADE and pays homage to the flavor of the streetscape in this vibrant district.”

Each Swade location holds a bit of history, and Swade Delmar is no exception. Cissell Mueller Construction, Inc (CMCI) worked as the General Contractor for both the building remodel and the tenant finish. This structure is an old abandoned brick Church with years-old fire damage from sheltering the communities homeless, and water damage from rain after decades of being uninhabited. Principal architect Meg Holmes, of MIN+ Architecture and Aaron Bunse, excitedly jumped in after Swade leased the space, and together, they adapted the project into a destination retail experience. With all historic restorations, there are many State and Federal standards that a project must meet to ensure preservation of a building’s heritage. CMCI closely collaborated with Kiku Obata, the architects for the Joe Edwards and the church, and MIN+ Architecture, to highlight key historical features while evolving the function and design into a modern St. Louis destination once historical approval was received. The historical component of the design and construction of this project was what truly made it stand out from its sister Swade projects. Some of these features include: innovative brass lighting, waterjet cut brass signage, branded brass floor inlay and an artistic interpretation of an original terrazzo floor medallion as an overhead, illuminated, stained glass print.

Marriage & Marijuana

It Takes Two

House of Happy

Last night…

It’s 7:00 PM and I’m standing at our sink filled with dishes. To be honest, not just dinner dishes, but lunch and breakfast as well. I have a clean load in the dishwasher that needs to be unloaded. Shit. I am going to be here a while. I close my eyes and my mind rushes to a million things I’d rather be doing. And it’s not what you expect, for me, it’s not about the glamour. I relish in the small moments, the little things. Those are everything. As I’m scrubbing the dishes, I try my best to fade out background noise that consists of the new Cruella on Disney Plus, and 3 very tired, crabby kids. Because, well, it’s summer, the days are longer and we tire easily from all the magic that this season brings. The sunshine, the pool days, the smell of bar-b-q, fresh cut grass and wild flowers. And then into the night…the flashes of fireflies, the owls talking, the cicadas chirping. Nights gazing at the stars explaining what they are to 3 sets of wandering eyes yearning to learn more about the world. But, not tonight, because, let’s get real, not every night of our lives is Snapchat or Facebook-worthy. That is not reality. Not every day is going to feel like the best day of our lives. Today was messy, and today was really hard. I have no shame in that. This is a big step for me. I always felt admitting it was weak. But now I encourage every parent to take a deep breathe, continue reading, and know that you are not alone. It is hard. All of it. Marriage is hard, being a parent is hard, building a family is hard. But, so cliché, the absolute most beautiful part of life. Because who would we be without these beautiful mini versions of ourselves and the partner we created them with? And for that, we need to be our best selves in order to be the best for those that love and need us.

Now, back to the dishes. See where my mind goes while I’m doing chores? As I’m watching the fireflies flicker through my kitchen window, I’m really feeling the stress from the day. From work, to the kids, our house, the animals, all of it. I’m feeling rushed as the minutes pass on the clock and I just wish I could snap my fingers and have it all done to tuck the kids in and have some time to decompress for the day. As I gaze through my kitchen window wishing today wasn’t so hectic and wanting to be more engaged, I saw the reflection of my husband taking the trash out of the bin behind me. As much as I wanted to grab him, hug him, and give him the slightest bit of hope for the last of our day, I just couldn’t. In the moment I couldn’t even do that for myself. I mentally wanted to, in my mind, but nothing on my body seemed to work. I let my stress get the best of me, and I was letting it win. I was tired from not being able to stop my thoughts from the day and just relax. The day was over, but I wasn’t letting myself actually feel that. All I truly wanted to do was feel close to my husband, but my mind wouldn’t stop and I couldn’t find the off button. How can I possibly be everything? To everyone? And everything? All the time? It is so important to me to never disappoint my family. My thoughts continue, my mind babble runs on. He sees I’m struggling, and, by this point I realize the chaotic, witching hour background noise has settled. The kids have full bellies, are freshly bathed, lotioned and now all cuddled up with their stuffies, drifting asleep to Cruella, because some days, like today, story time, books and nursery rhymes just don’t cut it.

He pushes me into a running hot shower and I strip and jump in. The hot water feels amazing and I don’t want to get out until he comes in to tell me the kids are now in bed. Sound machines on, covers pulled up, all 3 sets of wandering eyes closed and peacefully in dream land. Now, I am feeling the calm, and it’s not just due to the hot water. I dry off, wrap my towel around me and he grabs my hand to lead me somewhere. The front door opens, night sky awaiting, and I’m sitting in a rocking chair under a blanket of stars with a beautiful, pre-rolled joint in my hand. As I inhale, I can taste the earthy citrus terpenes of the Rainmaker by Sinse. This strain is one of my favorite hybrids, because while it relaxes my body and mind, it gives me the right amount of energy to enjoy the rest of my day and engage. I feel the elephant of stress move from my chest, down my arms, and exit through my fingertips. Ahhhhh, deep breathe in, deep breathe out. Is this real life? But, yes! It can be. And it should be. I’m going to sit next to my hot, so very handsome husband, smoke this joint, and let everything else go. Now that my focus is less on stress and more in the moment, I’m going to talk to him about my day, good and bad, and listen to all of his day’s endeavors. We will talk about future goals and dreams and brainstorm all the ways to make it all come true. We will cuddle, kiss, touch and love….all the things. And then I’m going to fall asleep next to him, only to wake up feeling my best self, physically, mentally, and emotionally…..It felt damn good.

Waking up the next day, I play out the prior night in my head and simply smile. I wake up a happy, healthy woman, ready to take on my day as a working mom of 3 kids, 4 dogs, 4 ducks, 2 chickens, 2 leopard geckos, and 4 opossums. BUT most importantly, above all, a wife. Because it takes two. I look forward to the end of the day with my husband and seek comfort in knowing I’m coming home to a person who understands me and supports me in all aspects of life. Marriage thrives on communication. The root of most marital problems and failures is a lack of understanding, but, most importantly, the willingness to do so. We wake up every day and choose our person all over again. Again and again, day after day. If it didn’t take work, it wouldn’t and couldn’t be so great. After 14 years together, we still belly laugh, joke like kids, and fall back in love over and over again. Finding our way through the good times and bad, and what works for us. To be stronger, together. Cannabis is something we bond over, and something special because it’s ours. Parenthood has a way of leaving us with very little privacy and not much time that is solely ours. That makes this time with him bring life to my soul. And it’s all mine….BUT don’t forget, it always takes 2, friends.

The Entourage Effect – The Benefits of 1:1

Why 1:1 ?

Guest blog by

Jamila Owens-Todd, Naturopathic Doctor
Research & Development Manager at PHYTOS Cannabis

As of late, I speak with more and more patients expressing interest in cannabis. People who would have never considered this as a part of their daily healing. Either a friend or family member has mentioned this as an option for anxiety or spoke of a doctor has suggested for their pain management. These patients are initially apprehensive due to the years long propaganda on the cannabis plant. Many of us drunk the kool-aid. Only to awaken to a rediscovery of its benefits. I have been working with plant medicine for decades, only to consistently ignore cannabis due to its illegality. Now, we are in a new space and we can utilize this plant as it was always intended, as one of nature’s healers.

What I am finding, however, that patients who are considering this for pain, anxiety or neurological healing, all want the benefits without feeling “too high.” I speak with my regular cannabis consumers and even with high tolerance, there is a need for a level of functionality. Consuming too much cannabis means different things to different people. For one patient 5 mg of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) can feel overwhelming, while another patient requires 30 mg per day to feel the balance that is needed. What we know is, that the body is receiving a benefit of THC whether you “feel” it or not. Many people do not feel the benefits of Vitamin C, however, we know that it is working to support your immune system. When medicating with THC, in low potencies, it is important to know that it is still healing, if we are feeling the “high.”

When medicating as a daily, herbal remedy, the lower doses of THC, can ignite a healing effect, even if it falls below your normal threshold. I have been supporting regular consumers in their health and we are finding that relief with lower dose cannabis, is not only achieved, but can be optimal. To optimize this healing, the addition of CBD (cannabidiol) will create a synergy(1).

Using a low dose THC with an equal amount of CBD, is called a 1:1 ratio, also known as Chemotype II. When considering THC to CBD ratios, there a Chemotype description based upon the psychoactive cannabinoid THC vs. the non-psychoactive cannabinoid, CBD. Other Chemotypes include Chemotype I, which is a high THC to a low CBD ratio. There is also Chemotype III, which has a high CBD to a low THC ratio. This 1:1 ratio (Chemotype II) has been found to be relaxing with less sedation, commonly found with high THC, therefore allowing for more functionality within the day. When medicating with a 1:1 ratio of THC to CBD, you gain the benefit of relaxation, mood support, muscle relaxation, therefore helping with conditions, such fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, cancer support, anxiety balance and many other physical pain imbalances. The key is the ability to function and continue with daily tasks, while medicating.

At Swade, we have a wide variety of low dose, 1-to-1, THC and CBD remedies. We pride ourselves on these formulations because of them providing clinical benefits in a consistent and effective manner. Not only has science shown then advantages of medicating with this combination, but patients of all cannabis levels, have reported:

• Reduction in anxiety

• Reduction in chronic pain

• Increased sleep and deeper sleep

• A slowed response to stress and stressful events

• Migraine support and a reduced onset of migraines

• Nervous system conditions have been eliminated, such as tremors, hyperhidrosis and nervous tics.

The key here is to understand that no matter your cannabis experience, we have solutions that are targeted at reducing and potentially, eliminating some of your greatest health concerns. Let’s get you balanced with our balanced formulas!

SWADE cannabis hosts block party to open fifth dispensary on Cherokee Street

SWADE cannabis is excited to announce the opening of its fifth dispensary, July 30th in the Cherokee neighborhood of St. Louis City.

“We are pleased to be expanding our footprint in the city of St. Louis, says Tom Muzzey, CEO of BeLeaf Medical, “Cherokee Street is a center of commerce, culture and creativity in St. Louis, with galleries and antiques, music and good eats, and the best festivals and events STL has to offer and they have welcomed us with open arms.”

Working with MIN+ architecture, President Meg Holmes said this about the new location, “This contemporary twist on a dilapidated, empty building on Antique Row created a dialogue between modern and historical. Original transom windows we discovered during demolition inform the facade and provide natural light, while meeting security and privacy requirements. Further, we added a surprising intervention in the context of Antique Row: a diagonal set-back to provide weather protection for customers and a glimpse of the reception. We wanted to respect the surrounding historical context while also making a statement representative of Swade’s unique contemporary aesthetic. This is a great example of bridging old and new developments on Cherokee Street.”

Cherokee Street is cared for by the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District, which works to make the neighborhood and street even more beautiful and dynamic for neighbors and visitors alike.

Along with the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District, SWADE will be hosting a block party on Friday July 30th from 2-8pm. Food trucks, music, medical cannabis vendors, retail and art pop-up vendors and more will be present in the SWADE back parking lot. “The team and I are beyond excited to be moving into the district, and didn’t want to just celebrate our store opening, but rather, why choose this spot,” said Maxwell McAnallen, General Manager of Swade Cannabis Cherokee. “We want to celebrate the rich culture and community of Cherokee and couldn’t think of a better way to do that and to meet our new neighbors.”

Introducing 314Twenty

Launches Local Community Program

Missouri’s premiere luxury cannabis dispensary, SWADE Cannabis, kicked off 314twenty today to support local businesses. Neighborhood businesses are the heart of the city’s most iconic communities and vibrant cultures, and as a new part of these neighborhoods, SWADE is excited to connect and amplify the work of St. Louisans (of all strains). Each month, SWADE will use their promotional channels to spotlight a local business and offer THEIR customers a discount at SWADE locations.

“In the spirit of giving and on the heels of such a long past year, SWADE is excited to join with other local businesses to elevate the community together. We all love to see the companies we patronize looking for a way to give back to their communities. It feels good to know that the money we spend is being used, in part, to benefit others,” says Jack Haddox, Director of Dispensary Operations. “For many of us, seeing some kind of local contribution is a requirement before we will become regular patrons of a business. Our dedication to being a good neighbor and supporting community has never been more important than now.”

How it works: Employees of businesses in each of our neighborhoods get an industry discount card for 20% all THC/CBD products. Workers can bring recent proof of employment (badge, business card, paycheck stub) to a SWADE Dispensary and we’ll get them a discount card if they already have a medical card, and if not, will help them get one. Business owners can opt-in to the 314twenty network via QR code or by directly going to the 314twenty landing page to sign up. We will spotlight different partners and during that “spotlighted” time, any patients that bring in a receipt from that local business, we will give 20%** off their purchase (THC/CBD products)—incentivizing the community to support and reinvest back into local businesses. These businesses will display a window cling at their locations to notify the patrons that they are participating. This is a token of SWADE Cannabis’ appreciation to our neighbors for cultivating the culture and soul of the communities we want to be a part of. The goal – simply to be a neighbor to residents, a partner to local businesses and a pillar of the community.

Introducing House Of Happy’s Kasey Boggs

Hi, I’m Kasey…I live in New Melle with my husband and big crazy family. I am a mom to 3 beautiful kids, 4 dogs, 2 ducks, and 2 chickens. My main motivator in life is my family and the outdoorsy lifestyle we indulge in. On most days you will find us biking, hiking, or swimming in our creek. I grew up in Wildwood, MO, and after graduating college from UMSL decided to follow my heart and move out to the country where I could further my passion for rescuing animals and wildlife. I started my family and never looked back.

I have a background in media marketing, branding, advertising and sales. I have always pursued and maintained jobs that allow creativity. I tend to gravitate towards challenging situations that require brainstorming and collecting different perspectives to find a solution. I left the pharmaceutical world in 2016 to raise my children and most importantly to find myself. I knew this career wasn’t for me anymore and it was time to find out what was. I now work as a marketing director for House of Pain Gyms and Apparel. I have always lived a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise. After college, I got a little more serious with it and competed in 4 bodybuilding shows in the figure category. This job allows me to support and encourage this lifestyle for a variety of others and provide an environment with the resources to do so. After leaving pharmaceuticals I promised myself that my next journey would be something I believe in and brings me happiness.

When I was asked to join the SWADE team I was ecstatic. Cannabis is something that has been a part of my lifestyle for more than a decade and has given me more confidence as a working mother and wife. I have always wanted to share my perspective and own personal experience with other women that are struggling or simply want to learn more about it. With all of the negative stigmatism it is hard to find the right space to tap into this controversial subject. My goal is to open up conversations, educate, and most importantly, help. I want to lift others up so they can be their best self. Cannabis is holistic medicine that can benefit a whole range of health issues physically, emotionally, and mentally. It is nothing more and nothing less. It is a natural way to medicate yourself, bypassing all of the lab-made chemicals that often get pushed on you.

My goal here is to unite our community and bring down the walls of judgement and shame. I want to eliminate stereotypes that discourage people from medicating with cannabis. I want women to feel empowered to be who they are without feelings of guilt caused by societal norms. When people see me, or are reading along, I want them to feel understood, seen and safe. You are not alone!

Microdosing: Control your way with cannabis.

A beginners guide on how to microdose THC

So, you’re ready to start microdosing. Or, maybe you’re just curious and want to learn more about how it works.  Either way, this is the perfect introduction to the world of microdosing THC. Microdosing cannabis is an amazing way to feel your best with full control.

What is microdosing?

Whether you heard about microdosing from a friend, the news, or Gweneth Paltrow, there’s no doubt that this new way of consuming THC is growing in popularity.  Microdosing is exactly what it sounds like – taking microdoses of THC throughout the day. The beauty of microdosing is that you can control the way you feel while reaping all the natural benefits of THC and CBD.

Just like with anything, too much of a good thing can still be too much.  Have you ever had the experience of taking too big a pull or eating an edible only to be knocked off your feet for a few hours? It’s no fun. That’s where microdosing comes in. It’s the ideal way to find your perfect balance for your day, taking it little by little until you reach your sweet spot. No more worrying about how much or how little cannabis to consume or trying to interpret THC to CBD ratios. You can take control of your doses and truly enjoy the journey to feeling your best.

Wait, will I feel “high” all day?

No, you won’t feel high all day (unless you want to).  The beautiful thing about microdosing is that it gives you all the medicinal benefits of THC without having to worry about the “high” feeling.  You can create a dosing ritual that fits your routine and daily needs.  Cannabis products with specifically designed technology that help you microdose small amounts of cannabis, allow you to be in control.  Begin with a small amount and slowly build until you find the amount that works best. (Shout out to all my fellow control freaks.)

So you’re saying I have control? Yes. The more technical term for microdosing is “titration,” or as I like to call it “the dating phase.” Titration is the fancy-schmancy way of saying finding the best result from taking the least amount of (in this case) cannabis. It’s all about balance. After all, every house plant needs water, but sometimes too much water does more harm than good.

What are the benefits of microdosing?

The benefit to Microdosing is that you can more precisely tailor/calibrate your cannabis intake to your body, your mood, and your needs.  It’s like going to a salad bar – you get to curate the perfect experience. Way better than a pre-made salad from the grocery store, right?

THC and its sister cannabinoid CBD can do wonders for easing stress and anxiety.  Low-dose products designed for microdosing are especially helpful in managing anxiety or chronic pain because you can still go about your daily life without the “high” side effect. Many cannabis products start at 10 milligrams of THC. But even 10mg may be more than what you actually need to feel calm, focused, or relieve pain.  You may only need 5mg or less to get the same therapeutic effects. The goal of microdosing is to find the sweet spot where you are getting the best benefits from the least amount.

How do I get started with microdosing?

I know this will sound hippy-dippy, but the best place to start is with a little self-reflection. Seriously.  Make an intention for how you would like to feel. How does cannabis improve your day?  Are you trying to get into the zone at work or the gym?  Does cannabis help relieve anxiety?  Or maybe you are having trouble falling asleep.

Once you know your microdosing goals, find a cannabis product with a THC to CBD ratio that correlates with your needs.  This may be a little trial and error if you’re new to cannabis. That’s okay, just remember you can go at your own pace. Talk to someone at your local dispensary to get a sense of what products could work for you.  What? I have to go into a store and talk to people? I thought this was the 21st century. Don’t worry, you can still start your microdosing journey safely and effectively with the help of vape pens or quick dissolve tablets specifically designed for microdosing. These products are a great place to start because they help you control the dosage. Brands like midose. tell you how many milligrams are in a 3-second pull or a single quick dissolve tablet, so you know exactly how much THC you are consuming each time.

Microdose with confidence

Hopefully, this roadmap gave you the knowledge and tools to discover how microdosing cannabis can enrich your daily life. Cannabis shouldn’t ever feel scary or overwhelming.  Nature has provided a powerful remedy to support your body and mind as you navigate through life.  Microdosing gives you control.
